Destination Ghost
The end of July to me means the beginning of another traveling adventure. My mom's birthday is on the 31st and every year my family takes a trip to Estes Park, Colorado to stay in the infamous Stanley Hotel. For those of who aren’t familiar with Steven King, the Stanley Hotel is the place were King stayed and got his inspiration for his book The Shining. My family takes a trip to this hotel at least twice every year. Now, you may think we go there for the beautiful mountain scenery surrounding Estes Park, and that is part of it. For, not only is the little town charming because of it's position directly in the middle of the Rocky Mountains but it is also charming as a result of the wonderful, special shops (they have about four candy/chocolate shops that get me everytime). These things are reason enough for most people to take a trip to Estes Park, however, my family does so in search of ghosts.
If you want to find proof of the existence of ghosts, look no further than the Stanley Hotel. My family has stayed there many a time and most recently have taken voice recorders into our rooms and around the hotel to catch the voices we hear. And indeed we have caught multiple "non existent" voices. We were touring the basement of the hotel, where a little girl is considered to still roam the tunnels, and caught a little girl's voice saying "mom" in one of our recorders. While this might not seem special you must know that we (my mom, aunt, my two brothers, and I) all had recorders turned on but the only one that caught the girl's voice was my mom's. Creepy, right? There have been countless other experiences too, like my mom, dad, and aunt hearing a woman's voice outside the hotel in the dead of night, in the middle of winter, when no one else is around. I was walking down a second floor hallway with my brothers once, heard someone call "hey" behind me and turned around expecting to see my mom coming to bring us back to the room, yet there was absolutely no one there. My brothers also heard this voice and turned around like me, so I know I wasn't just experiencing a moment of insanity. Consider for a moment, that when we do our "investigating" we do it at 2 or 3 o'clock in the morning when no other hotel guests are around. But don't take just my word for it. Jim Carrey once stayed in the room previously occupied by Steven King (one of the most haunted rooms in the hotel) and got up and left the hotel in the middle of the night without uttering so much as a word about what got him so scared; till this day he won't speak of what he saw in that room.

Before those skeptics stop reading this post and vow never to travel to the Stanley Hotel, let me have a moment, or a paragraph, to convince you to entertain the idea of ghosts. As we get older our ability to see outside our own spectrum dies down. As our egos emerge it further limits our ability to see beyond the human realm unless the entities disturbance is abrupt or blatant such as the antagonistic acts of a poltergeist. We ignore the energy that exists outside our own spectrum. Everything you do, see, hear, taste, feel, etc. Is controlled by electrical impulses sent to your brain from your body's different parts or from your brain to your different body parts. When a person dies their individual systems shut down independently. Since all these systems are controlled by electrical impulses the electricity has to go somewhere. It is a general law of physics that energy cannot be destroyed, so where does the energy go when your body shuts down? It is released into the atmosphere. Now if you can't compel yourself to belive in ghosts, can you at least believe in energy? Energy that may be left over after a sudden or horrible death? If you can believe this idea or any other, then a trip to the Stanley Hotel is one for you. Just grab a recorder and wander the halls and I guarantee you will find something.
But, if you don't buy into the idea of ghosts then I don't want to discourage you from vactioning at the Stanley Hotel. It is a nice hotel with a great staff and has wonderful views. They also have The Shining playing on repeat on one of their television station all day and night if that strikes your fancy. But the town of Estes Park really is quite charming and relaxing for a mountain town, with lots of fun resturants, and shops. Who knows, you might see an elk crossing the road...or you might see a ghost.
